Blake Shelton and Carly Pearce performed during the semifinals results show of “The Voice” season 21 on Tuesday (December 7).
Shelton, supported by his backup band, performed his anthemic new single, “Come Back as a Country Boy,” co-written by Jordan Schmidt, Josh Thompson, and Hardy. As he strummed his guitar and sang the verses, lighting bolts appeared on the screens.
“Yeah, when I die, I wanna come back as a country boy / No, there ain’t no better life if you ask me / If my neck don’t come out red, then Lord, just keep me dead / ‘Cause a country boy’s all that I know how to be,” Shelton sang throughout the chorus of the tune.
“Man, I love performing on The Voice stage, because I get to feel the same thrill that the contestants feel every week,” Shelton said. “I’m excited to perform this new single and remind everyone — especially my fellow coaches — there ain’t nothing like a country boy!”
Pearce also took the stage, singing her hit, “29.” She got a standing ovation for her performance and even got a hug from Kelly Clarkson.
“When I started writing 29, I was in such a vulnerable and broken space. But feeling the connection with people on their own journeys has reminded us all we’re not alone,” Carly noted.
She added, “I couldn’t be more grateful to share ’29’ for my first appearance on ‘The Voice!’ In a year where my world has completely shifted, I know the value of a show that gives dreamers like me a chance to sing their truth.”
