Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has presented the $100 million Courage and Civility Award to country music legend and philanthropist Dolly Parton.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Bezos’ longtime partner Lauren Sanchez wrote, “Jeff [Bezos] and I are so proud to share that we have a new Bezos Courage and Civility Award winner – a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work.”
“We can’t wait to see all the good that you’re going to do with this $100 million award, @DollyParton,” she added.
Sanchez also shared a video of their speech Friday before awarding the grant to Parton.
In a note of gratitude to Bezos and Sanchez, Parton tweeted, “I try to put my money where my heart is. I will do my best to do good things with this money.”
Bezos said that Parton, who has donated to many humanitarian causes, will use the award money for charitable purposes.
The Tennessee native has founded the Dollywood Foundation, The Imagination Library, and the Dolly Parton Scholarship.
